I made the pivot roughly seven years ago, when after eight years of shift work I’d had enough.
At 2-am (on night shift) one winters night, I decided to put money down on a Personal Training certification. It was the right decision, one that has undoubtedly altered the way I live my life for the better.
The origin story for this change happened a couple of years earlier. I’ve told this storey many times (you can read about it here) so I won’t bore you with too many details. But, at age 36, I was broken and fat.
Suffering from patella tendinosis in both knees, carpal tunnel syndrome and I weighed in at just under 100kg (not much of this was muscle).
After years of neglecting my health, and many failed attempts at weight loss, I made a firm decision to change for good.
That pivot allowed me to make the next decision which furthered me along the path to lasting change; To a fitter, healthier and happier version of myself.
I not sure where I’m going with this other than to say, we all need to keep trying to improve.
A small change you make today might be the beginnings of your new origin story, the catalyst for a much larger change down the track.
If I didn’t decide to change my habits, start training, eating better at 36, I would have never been able to change my career to personal training at age 40.
